Software for Flooring Companies: What Each Type Does, and Which Ones You Actually Need

Updated October 22, 2026

By Moni Mindich, founder, 20 years in home improvement

Searching for software for flooring companies turns up dozens of lists, each ranking tools that do very different jobs. A measuring app, a flooring ERP and a field service CRM are not alternatives to each other. Start from the work your shop does every week, then pick one tool per job.

Quick answer: Most flooring companies need four things: a way to measure and take off rooms, a way to turn measurements into a quote, a place to schedule installs and keep customer history, and accounting. Small installers can cover the middle two with a general field service app; retailers with showrooms and inventory need a flooring-specific system. None of them answers the phone or chases the quote for you.

The jobs software does in a flooring business

A flooring job runs through the same steps whether you install LVP in a condo or carpet a whole office floor: an inquiry, an in-home or on-site measure, a takeoff with waste and seams, a quote, material ordering, scheduling the install, invoicing, and collecting. Each software category covers a different part of that chain.

Product examples are named to show what each category looks like, based on each vendor's own description of its product as checked on October 22, 2026; we are not affiliated with any of them, and prices change often, so check current pricing directly.

Which stack fits which company

Owner-installer or small crew (1 to 3 installers, no showroom)

A field service app plus accounting covers it. Use a measuring app on a tablet if you do a lot of carpet. The biggest gap at this size is not software: it is the phone ringing while you are on your knees with a seam roller, and quotes that wait until Sunday night.

Growing installer (4 to 10 installers, an office person)

Add flooring-specific estimating so quotes come out consistent no matter who measured, and connect it to accounting. Job costing starts to matter: you need to know which job types and which installers actually make money.

Retailer with a showroom

A flooring ERP is usually worth it once you carry inventory, sell from samples and manage purchase orders with several suppliers. It replaces several separate apps and keeps rolls, remnants and special orders straight.

Questions to ask before you buy

  1. Does it handle your materials? Carpet by the roll and seams, tile and LVP by the box, hardwood with waste factors, and stairs as their own line item.
  2. Does it sync with your accounting both ways, so invoices and payments aren't typed twice?
  3. Can installers use it on a phone at the job, including photos and the customer's signature?
  4. What does a quote look like to the customer? Options (good, better, best), photos and a way to accept and pay a deposit online win more jobs than a PDF attachment.
  5. What does it cost all-in, including per-user fees, setup, training and payment processing?
  6. How long does setup take? Price lists, labor rates and product catalogs take real time to load; ask who does it.

The work no flooring software does

Every tool in the table waits for someone to use it. Somebody still has to answer the 4 pm call from a homeowner who wants a measure this week, put the measure on the calendar, send the quote the same day, follow up three days later when the customer goes quiet, and remind them about the deposit. In my experience most flooring companies don't lose jobs to a competitor's software; they lose them to a competitor who called back first. FAQ

Common questions

What software do flooring companies use?

Usually a combination: a measuring and takeoff tool, flooring estimating or a field service CRM for quotes and scheduling, a flooring ERP if they run a showroom with inventory, and accounting software such as QuickBooks or Xero.

Do small flooring installers need flooring-specific software?

Not always. An owner-installer with no inventory can run on a general field service app plus accounting, adding a measuring app for carpet and sheet goods. Flooring ERPs pay off once you carry stock and run a showroom.

What should flooring estimating software include?

Material calculation with waste and seams, your labor rates by product and room, stairs and transitions as line items, good-better-best options, and online acceptance with a deposit.

Turn the hours this takes into minutes of talking.

Home service businesses answer only about half their calls (Invoca, July 2026), and owners spend about 11 to 16 hours/week on admin. Knowing what to do is the easy part; the money leaks out in the calls you can't take, the quotes nobody chases and the invoices that sit unpaid. Unmanually is a 24/7 AI Office Manager for flooring contractors that you run by voice from your phone:

  • Answers your business line 24/7, quotes from your price list and books the job on the live call, so the customer doesn't ring the next company on Google.
  • Sends the quote, follows up until they say yes, then sends the invoice and chases it until it's paid.
  • Texts confirmations and reminders, keeps your calendar and remembers every price and promise.
  • Plus a free website for your business, set up for you. On a plan, every form fill gets a call back from your AI Office Manager in about a minute.
