Locksmith business software is usually sold as a general field service app with a locksmith page bolted on. The features that matter are different for each kind of job you do: a 2 a.m. lockout needs fast dispatch and a price on the phone, a commercial master-key system needs records you can find in five years. Here is what to look for, job by job.
Quick answer: Most mobile locksmiths need one field service app (quoting, dispatch, invoicing and card payments, for example Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceM8), accounting software, and a way to answer and price emergency calls when you are already on a job. Commercial work adds key-system records; automotive work adds a key-programming database, which is a separate tool.

Every vendor lists scheduling, quoting and invoicing. What separates a good fit from a bad one is how the software handles the specific work a locksmith does. Write down roughly what share of your jobs are emergency lockouts, residential rekeys and lock changes, automotive keys and commercial accounts, then judge each tool against the table below.
| Job type | What the software must do | Where generic apps fall short |
|---|---|---|
| Emergency lockouts (home and car) | Take the call any hour, give a price range, dispatch the nearest tech, text an ETA, take card payment on site | Online booking forms don't help someone standing outside at night; they call and expect an answer |
| Rekeys and lock changes | Quote per cylinder plus trip charge, book a window, send a reminder, invoice on completion | Usually fine; check that per-cylinder line items are quick to edit on a phone |
| Automotive keys | Record year, make, model and VIN, quote by key type, track blanks and fobs used | Key programming itself needs a dedicated device and database; the field app only handles the job and the invoice |
| Commercial and master-key systems | Store keying charts, who holds which key, access-control notes and contract terms per site | Customer notes fields get messy; look for attachments or custom fields per site |
| Safes and access control | Long notes, parts ordered, follow-up visits | Multi-visit jobs need clear job history |
Jobber's locksmith page, checked October 24, 2026, lists quoting with optional line items and client approvals, a drag-and-drop schedule with map routing, GPS-based dispatch of the nearest technician to emergency calls, on-my-way texts, invoicing with follow-ups, online card payments, a client self-serve portal and integrations with QuickBooks Online, Mailchimp and Zapier (Jobber, locksmith software). Housecall Pro, ServiceM8 and ServiceTitan cover similar ground: ServiceM8 is built around running a job from the phone, and ServiceTitan is aimed at larger multi-truck operations with the setup cost to match. Check each vendor's current pricing page yourself; plans and per-user fees change often.
Test any of them with three real jobs from last month before you commit: one lockout at night, one four-cylinder rekey and one commercial job with a keying chart. If any of the three takes more than a couple of minutes to enter on your phone, it will not get entered when you are busy.
Field service software starts working once a job exists. For a locksmith, the job is won or lost before that, on the phone. A locked-out caller rings the first few names on Google and books whoever answers with a believable price and a time. If you are halfway through a rekey with your hands in a cylinder, that call goes to the next locksmith, or to a lead-generation call center that sends it to whoever pays most. Here is how that call can go when it is answered on your behalf.
Example: an 11:40 pm house lockout (illustrative, not a real customer)
Caller: Hi, I'm locked out of my house. Can someone come now?
AI Office Manager: Yes, we can help tonight. What's the address, and is anyone inside or any pets or a stove on?
Caller: 418 Birch Lane. No, just me outside.
AI Office Manager: Thanks. For a standard house lockout after 9 pm the price is $145 to $185 depending on the lock, and that includes the trip. If the lock has to be drilled and replaced, the technician will give you the price before starting. Our technician can be there in about 30 minutes. Shall I send him?
Caller: Yes, please.
AI Office Manager: Done. He'll need to see ID with this address, or something like a utility bill, before opening the door. I'm texting you his name and a link to track him now.
The prices in the example are stated assumptions for illustration; your AI Office Manager uses your own price list and your own rules, such as the ID check and when to quote a drill-and-replace.
| Business | What to run |
|---|---|
| Solo mobile locksmith | One field service app on the phone, card reader, accounting software, and every call answered and priced while you work |
| 2 to 5 vans | Add GPS dispatch, a shared schedule, per-tech job history and review requests after each job |
| Commercial-heavy shop | Add per-site key records and contract billing; consider access-control vendor portals alongside the field app |

For most mobile locksmiths, one field service app that handles quoting, dispatch, invoicing and card payments on the phone, such as Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceM8, plus accounting software. Pick by testing a lockout, a rekey and a commercial job.
No. Field service software handles the job, the quote and the invoice. Key programming needs a dedicated programmer and vehicle database, which is separate.
Either a dispatcher, a call service, or an AI Office Manager that answers in the business name, gives the price range, books or dispatches the job and texts the ETA, so the caller doesn't ring the next locksmith.
Home service businesses answer only about half their calls (Invoca, July 2026), and owners spend about 11 to 16 hours/week on admin. Knowing what to do is the easy part; the money leaks out in the calls you can't take, the quotes nobody chases and the invoices that sit unpaid. Sources: Invoca, July 2026 (52% of home-service calls answered by a person, 60M+ calls); admin hours: Time etc / Censuswide 2023 and Amex SME Barometer 2026.
