This locksmith pricing calculator builds a price the way a locksmith ticket is written: a service call, labor from the setup and the minutes for each lock, parts with your markup, mileage and drive time, your real cost per hour with overhead and your margin, plus an after-hours multiplier for nights and holidays. You get the price to quote, the price per lock, your margin on the job and the break-even.
Quick answer: Price = service call × time-of-day multiplier + (labor hours × cost per hour + mileage) ÷ (1 − margin) × multiplier + parts × (1 + markup). Labor hours = (setup + locks × minutes per lock + drive) ÷ 60. Break-even = labor cost + mileage + parts cost.
An estimate from the numbers you entered, not a market price. Put in your own costs for a number you can stand behind.
Home service businesses answer only about half their calls (Invoca, July 2026), and owners spend about 11 to 16 hours/week on admin. Pricing is the easy part; the money leaks out in the calls you can't take, the quotes nobody chases and the invoices that sit unpaid. Unmanually is a 24/7 AI Office Manager for locksmiths that you run by voice from your phone:
Sources: Invoca, July 2026 (52% of home-service calls answered by a person, 60M+ calls); admin hours: Time etc / Censuswide 2023 and Amex SME Barometer 2026.

Leave your mobile number and the AI Office Manager calls you right away, the same way it would call back a homeowner who wants every lock rekeyed after moving in. That call is the demo: it answers, books you a 15-minute time with the founder and follows up.

A rekey of 3 locks at 12 minutes each, 10 minutes of setup, $15 of pins and parts at 75% markup, a 30-minute drive and 16 miles round trip at $0.70, $28 labor and $35 overhead per hour, 30% margin on labor and travel, $65 service call, regular hours.
Time is 10 + 36 + 30 = 76 minutes, 1.27 hours, which costs 1.27 × $63 = $79.80. Mileage is $11.20. Labor and travel are priced at $91 ÷ 0.70 = $130. Add the $65 service call and parts at $26.25, and the price is $221.25, or $73.75 per lock. Break-even is $106, so the job's margin is 52.1%.
The same rekey on a Sunday night at ×2 comes to $416.25: the service call and labor double, the parts don't.
Most locksmith tickets have two parts: a service call that covers getting there, and the work once you arrive. Quote both on the phone so the customer knows the total range before you roll. Customers have learned to be wary of low phone quotes that grow on site; a clear, itemized number is a reason to choose you.
Rekeying is fast per cylinder once you are set up, so price per lock with a setup charge. Installs take longer, especially when doors need drilling or the hardware doesn't fit the prep. Lockouts are mostly about speed and the time of day. Car keys and fobs depend on the vehicle and the equipment you need, so keep a price list by make and model year.
Emergency calls at 2 a.m. cost you sleep and the next day's schedule. A time-of-day multiplier on the service call and labor is standard and easy to explain. State it before you go.
Small parts carry a big markup because they are cheap and you stock many. High-security cylinders, smart locks and fobs carry less. Know the margin your markup gives and keep the van stocked with what you sell most.
A call 40 minutes out costs far more than one around the corner. Set zones with their own service call fee, or keep mileage as its own cost like this calculator does, so long drives pay for themselves. Group non-urgent rekeys and installs by area on the same day.
Master key systems, access control, panic hardware and door closers are recurring commercial work. Price surveys and keying charts as their own jobs, and offer property managers and businesses a rate sheet so they call you first every time. Keep records of every key system you set up; the next call for that building is yours if you can answer it quickly.
Someone locked out calls locksmiths until one answers and gives a price. Unmanually is an AI Office Manager that works 24/7 and that you run by voice: the AI Office Manager answers, asks the address, the lock or vehicle and whether it is an emergency, gives your service call and price range, dispatches you and texts the customer your arrival time, then sends the invoice and chases it. Price it from a service call, setup and minutes per cylinder, parts and travel. With the worked example's assumptions (3 locks at 12 minutes, $63 an hour cost, 30% margin, $65 service call) the price is $221.25, or $73.75 per lock.
A charge for getting to the job, quoted before you go. Many locksmiths charge it on every ticket and add the work on top.
Many use a multiplier on the service call and labor for evenings, nights and holidays. The calculator offers ×1.5 and ×2 and leaves parts unmultiplied.
By the key type and vehicle: blank or fob cost, cutting and programming time and equipment. Pick car key in the calculator and enter your parts and minutes.
It varies widely by part. Whatever you use, check the margin it gives: a 75% markup is a 42.9% margin on the part.
