Gutter Estimate Template: The Lines Every Gutter Quote Needs, With a Worked Two-Story Example

Updated November 6, 2026

By Moni Mindich, founder, 20 years in home improvement

A gutter estimate template is worth having when it makes you price the parts homeowners forget: downspout footage, inside and outside miters, tear-out, and the rotten fascia you find when the old gutter comes off.

Quick answer: A good gutter estimate lists linear feet of gutter by size and material, downspouts by count and length, miters and end caps, tear-out and haul-away, gutter guards as an option, a fascia repair rate for hidden damage, deposit terms, warranty and how long the price holds. The fill-in template and a worked $3,388 two-story example are below.

What a gutter estimate template has to include

Homeowners compare gutter quotes on the total, so the quote that lists every line wins the trust, and the one that skips lines loses money on the job. Installed aluminum gutters run about $8 to $18 per linear foot, with most aluminum projects at $1,200 to $2,700 and an average new installation around $2,300, according to the {INCH}. The spread is that wide because downspouts, corners, height and tear-out change the job, so put each of them on its own line.

If found: fascia replacementas needed$12.00/ft, approved first-

Two things in this example protect the margin. Downspouts are 132 feet of material on a two-story house, nearly as much as the gutter itself, and many quick quotes price them as a flat add-on. And the fascia line is written as a rate the homeowner has already seen, so a rotten board becomes a two-minute approval instead of a dispute on the ladder.

Good, better, best

Offer the same house three ways: 5" aluminum without guards, 6" aluminum (the base above), and 6" with guards. Most homeowners pick the middle, and the guard option is easier to sell on the estimate than on the roof. For cleaning-only customers, quote the annual cleaning on the same page; the same guide puts a typical gutter cleaning at about $170 to $425.

Measuring so the estimate holds

Measure each run along the fascia, not the roofline, and add a few inches at every end cap. Count downspouts from the gutter outlet to the ground, plus the elbows that carry water away from the foundation; on a two-story house each one is usually 20 feet or more. Note where the ground slopes toward the house, because that is where homeowners will ask for an extension or a drain tie-in later. Check the fascia with a screwdriver at the corners and under valleys, where rot starts, and photograph anything soft so the fascia line on the estimate has a picture behind it. Finally, note the roof edge: drip edge missing or shingles overhanging too far change how the gutter hangs and belong on the estimate as a note.

Sending the estimate the same day

Measure, photograph each run and the fascia, and send the estimate before you leave the driveway or the same evening. Follow up on day two and day seven. Spring and fall are when homeowners collect quotes, so speed matters most then.

FAQ

Common questions

What should a gutter estimate include?

Linear feet of gutter by size and material, downspouts by count and length, miters and end caps, tear-out and haul-away, gutter guards as an option, a fascia repair rate for hidden damage, deposit and payment terms, warranty and how long the price holds.

How do you estimate a gutter job?

Measure every run and every downspout from the ground to the gutter, count the corners, note stories and roof pitch, then price per linear foot for gutter and downspout plus each corner, tear-out and options. Most aluminum projects land between $1,200 and $2,700, per Inch Calculator.

How much should I charge per foot for gutters?

Aluminum gutters run about $8 to $18 per linear foot installed, per Inch Calculator. Price downspouts per foot too, and charge more for 6" gutters, upper stories and steep roofs.

Should a gutter estimate include fascia repair?

Yes, as a rate rather than a total, approved before work starts. Rotten fascia often shows up only when the old gutter comes off.
