Garage Door Business Software: A Scoring Worksheet for Repair and Install Companies

Updated October 30, 2026

By Moni Mindich, founder, 20 years in home improvement

Garage door business software gets bought for scheduling, then fails on springs by wire size, door orders and the stuck-car call. Here is how to score it for the work you actually do.

Quick answer: Pick garage door business software by your mix of repairs and installs: repair companies need a tablet price book, truck stock by spring size and same-day booking; install companies need door quotes with specs, order tracking and deposits. In our worked example a three-truck company spends about 11.6 office hours a week on calls, quotes, orders and invoices.

Repair calls and door installs need different things

Garage door business software is usually sold as general field service software with a garage door photo on the page. A garage door company has two businesses under one roof. The repair side is short, urgent jobs: a broken torsion spring with the car stuck inside, an opener that stopped, a door off its track. The install side is fewer, larger jobs: a new insulated door, a carriage-house upgrade, a commercial rolling door, with an order to place and a delivery to wait for.

Software that fits one side often frustrates the other. Below is a weighted scoring worksheet to run during free trials, a worked week showing where the office hours go, and the questions most vendor pages skip.

Scoring worksheet for garage door business software

Score each line 0 to 3 during the trial and multiply by the weight for your side of the business. The weights are ours, from where garage door companies lose time and money.

What to testWeight: repairWeight: installsYour score (0-3)
Price book with good-better-best spring and opener options the tech shows on a tablet31
Truck stock by part: springs by wire size, length and inside diameter, rollers, cables, opener models31
Door quotes with size, panel style, insulation (R-value), windows and color, with a photo of the opening13
Order tracking from supplier to delivery, with the customer told the install date13
Booking a same-day spring call on the live call, with the fee stated before dispatch31
Maintenance agreements for commercial overhead doors with automatic reminders22
Payments and financing on site, deposits on door orders23
Two-way sync with your accounting software22

Add the weighted scores per vendor. A repair-heavy company should not pick the winner on install features it will rarely use, and the reverse.

Worked example: one week of office work in a three-truck company

These are assumptions for illustration for a company doing mostly repairs with some door sales. Replace them with a week from your own calendar.

Office taskCount a weekMinutes eachHours
Calling back missed calls and booking3063.0
Writing new-door and opener quotes8253.3
Ordering doors and tracking delivery6151.5
Following up on open quotes1551.2
Invoicing and chasing payment4032.0
Asking for reviews after the job3010.5
Total11.6

That's about 11.6 hours a week, mostly done at night by the owner or one office person. Software that only records the work leaves almost all of it in place. The two biggest lines, missed calls and quotes, are exactly what a stuck-car customer and a new-door shopper judge you on: the spring customer calls the next company within minutes, and the door shopper picks the quote that arrives first and reads clearly.

Home-service callers reach a person only about 52% of the time, and 45% of the leads who do get through book on that call (Invoca, July 2026). For a garage door company, the call itself is the sale.

Where Unmanually fits

Unmanually is a 24/7 AI Office Manager for garage door companies that you run by voice. It answers every call and text, asks your questions (is the car stuck inside, is the door open or closed, did a spring snap with a bang), states your service fee, and books the job on the live call. It writes door and opener quotes from your price list while you're on a ladder, follows up until the customer decides, orders parts and doors from your supplier, invoices when you say a job is done and chases payment. It works alongside the field software you choose. See Unmanually for garage door companies.

FAQ

Common questions

What software do garage door companies use?

Most use field service software for scheduling, quoting, invoicing and payments, plus accounting software. Repair-heavy companies need a price book and truck stock by spring size; install-heavy companies need door quotes with specs and order tracking.

Does garage door software track springs and parts?

Some do, by part number on each truck. Test it in the trial: load a few spring sizes, invoice a job, and check the truck count comes down.

How much office time does a garage door company spend each week?

In our worked example a three-truck company spends about 11.6 hours a week returning calls, writing quotes, ordering doors, following up and invoicing.

Can software answer garage door service calls?

Most field software doesn't answer the phone. Callers to home-service businesses reach a person only about 52% of the time (Invoca, July 2026), so check who answers when every truck is out.

Turn the hours this takes into minutes of talking.

Home service businesses answer only about half their calls (Invoca, July 2026), and owners spend about 11 to 16 hours/week on admin. Knowing what to do is the easy part; the money leaks out in the calls you can't take, the quotes nobody chases and the invoices that sit unpaid. Unmanually is a 24/7 AI Office Manager for garage door companies that you run by voice from your phone:

  • Answers your business line 24/7, quotes from your price list and books the job on the live call, so the customer doesn't ring the next company on Google.
  • Sends the quote, follows up until they say yes, then sends the invoice and chases it until it's paid.
  • Texts confirmations and reminders, keeps your calendar and remembers every price and promise.
  • Plus a free website for your business, set up for you. On a plan, every form fill gets a call back from your AI Office Manager in about a minute.
